Donate Your Stuff

You may be able to deduct donations made to our ReStore locations in Charleston and Teays Valley.

Only donations made before the close of the tax year would be eligible. Our ReStore locations will be open until 4:00 p.m. on December 31, 2020 for your last minute donations.

When you donate to our Habitat ReStores you will get an itemized receipt stating that you donated to our Habitat ReStore. Habitat for Humanity of Kanawha & Putnam nor our ReStore staff cannot assign a value to non-monetary gifts like furniture and building materials. It is up to you, the donor, to determine the value for tax purposes. We suggest you contact your tax advisor or accountant, or visit the IRS website for more information.

The IRS has a few reminders for those who want to make end-of-year donations:

If you take the standard deduction, you can’t claim a donation. You’ll need to itemize your deductions.

Donations are only deductible in the year they were made. So, if you donate a living room set to either of our ReStore locations on December 29, 2020, you can claim the donation when you file your 2020 taxes. Keep in mind that both Habitat ReStore locations will be open on December 31, 2020 until 4:00 p.m. for your last minute donations.
